About -
I took up pottery in late 2014 and learned the craft from Julian Centofanti and the wonderful team at Carlton Arts Centre. I'd spent a lot of my life studying and when I hit a career crossroads I decided to take the plunge and see if I could make clay by full time job. I promised myself if I was poor and unhappy in a year, I'd get a 'real job', and after 12 months I was poor but very fulfilled so I pursued the life of an artist.
Despite having degrees in biomedicine, journalism and international development, I actually feel most comfortable when on a pottery wheel or when loading a kiln.
For the first couple of years of being a full time potter, I worked out of a studio at my Dad's hobby farm on Wadawurrung country. Since then I have moved to a different small country town, also on Wadawurrung country, where I converted an old shed into a studio. After several years I felt a calling to the mountains of NE Victoria, and in 2021 I moved to the Dhudhuroa-Jaitmathang country where I spend equal time with my hands in clay, and my hands in the garden. Both make my soul sing.
Since March 2016 I have been a full time potter and have learned a great deal about ceramics, running a small business and myself. Clay has given me a life beyond my wildest dreams, for that I am grateful and work hard to pass that forward in my work. Currently I do this by donating $10 from every purchase to different organisations that work with Indigenous Australians, namely Children's Ground and Indigenous Literacy Foundation.
