Artist Statement:
Oracles are mystical guides that one consults to find their way in life. However, I think we are all oracles. Beautiful, normal, magical and imperfect. I used to draw figures in my sketchbook and it took me a while to realise they were trying to tell me something. The figures that come out of me with clay, pencil and paint are equally sassy, empowered and wise. I like that they give reassurance that life is yours to play with and you have permission to be wobbly, messy and free.

About - 

Hilary Green is a ceramic artist based in Naarm, Melbourne. Her sculptures are inspired by the sea, shell fragments found on the sand as well as the shapes and energy of rocks. In her work, she explores organic forms and imperfection through her drawing practice and translates them into surreal stoneware sculptures. Hilary is especially interested in the tactility of clay, her connection with the earth and how she can create the sense of freedom and movement. Her sculptural forms play with ancient shapes mixed with modern colour and playful positions, whilst remaining functional to represent sacred daily presence with objects. She founded Shell Space - an event and art studio in Brunswick to value process and community engagement and also runs monthly classes there to share her practice.
